Ross County have gone eight points clear at the top of the Championship with a game in hand after victory over Greenock Morton.

Goals from Josh Mullin and Brian Graham proved to be the difference in Dingwall and with Dundee United losing at Partick Thistle, the Staggies are now heavy favourites to stampede their way back to the Premiership.

In a first half of few chances it was the Staggies who threatened more but rarely tested goalkeeper Roddy McCrorie.

Their best chance came when Kenny van der Weg’s cross from the left wing found Declan McManus at the right post but he shot just wide.

But the deadlock was broken in the 54 minute when the Morton defence failed to clear a cross and the ball fell to Mullin who fired a low drive into the back of the net from eight yards.

Ross County doubled their advantage 12 minutes from time when Graham got on the end of a Don Cowie cross unchallenged and was allowed to nod home from close range.
