Sports Flashback: Ross County manager Alex Smith under pressure after 1-0 defeat to Clyde leaves Staggies feeling stagnant





"Clearly, results cannot continue to go like this."

It is a phrase that many Ross County fans may have been saying to themselves when leaving the Global Energy Stadium after the defeat to St Mirren last weekend, but it was also written about the Staggies 20 years ago this week.

Back then, Alex Smith’s side were coming off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Clyde – where current first team boss Don Cowie played the full 90 minutes – throwing the County manager’s position into serious question across the national press.

Sitting third bottom of the old Division One, dreams of a single top flight season felt a long way off – never mind the 11 of the last 12 seasons in the Premier they have realised.
