Shinty's big boys enter fray for Camanachd Cup
THE draw for the second round of the tournament every shinty player dreams of winning has taken place.
The second round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup sees the ten Premiership sides enter the action.
This is the first time that shinty’s Big Day Out will return to An Aird since 2008 when Fort William defeated Kingussie on home turf by two goals to one.
Observing the draw and looking back on that final were the team’s current managers, Kingussie’s Russell Jones and Adam Robertson from Fort William.
Speaking on the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup, Adam Robertson said: "Both Fort William and Kingussie have taken part in many great finals over the years and to be able to lead Fort William to a Final on home soil would be incredible however there is a long way to go yet starting with a tricky tie against either Kilmallie or Glasgow Mid Argyll."
Kingussie’s Russell Jones added: "This is the cup that all shinty players and coaches dream of lifting. I have many great memories from my own playing days in this competition and I look forward to embarking on another cup campaign as a coach."
Camanachd Association president, Archie Robertson, said: "We are delighted to be back in Fort William for this year’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup final; it is an excellent facility and I am in no doubt that it will provide a first class setting for the match.
"Shinty has been highly fortunate to have enjoyed some great finals over the past few years and by the looks of this draw we are set for more of the same."
The draw was as follows: Kingussie v Lovat; Kyles Athletic v Inveraray; Newtonmore v Strachur; Fort William v Kilmallie or Glasgow Mid Argyll; Caberfeidh or Oban Celtic v Glenorchy; Skye v Kinlochshiel; Lochaber v Glenurquhart; Beauly or Strathglass v Oban Camanachd
The 2nd round fixtures will take place on Saturday, June 1. This year’s final is set for An Aird, Fort William on Saturday, September 14.
