ROSS County midfielder Christopher Routis is looking to add goals to his game as he looks ahead to the second half of the season.

The Frenchman is confident that County can cement their top six position as long as they keep improving.

A recent home win over Aberdeen, backed up by a derby day victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Global Energy Stadium on Hogmanay, helped County to sixth place in the table – a position Routis feels County can hold on to.

He said: “That’s the target – that’s why we work hard every week. We want to stay in the top six.

“In the first part of the season we had one month when we lost a lot of points. It was a bad moment for the team but I think we deserve to be in this position. We are playing better and better.”

The win over Highland rivals Caley Thistle was particularly pleasing for everyone at County, and gave the side a major boost ahead of the winter break.

Routis added: “It’s always good to win a derby. It’s good for the confidence and good for the team.

“With those three points it gets us back in the top six – that’s the most important thing.”

Assessing his first six months at the club, Routis said: “I’m quite happy because I’ve played a lot of games – that was my target.

“There was one month when I stayed on the bench. But to play every game is good. If the manager puts me on the bench then it’s because my performance was less than good. So I need to be focused on that, correct it and be more consistent.”

Routis still feels he can contribute more to the side, he added: “I’ve just scored one goal from midfield and maybe one or two assists, which is not really good. I need to progress with that.

“I work at training every week to do everything better – I want to play better in the second part of the season.”

Looking ahead to County’s next outing, a Scottish Cup fourth round tie against Dundee United, he said: “It’s an important game for us because it is our last cup game.

“We are focused on it and we will be ready. We have a couple of friendly games to prepare for it but we are at home, which is an advantage.

“We want to win every game at home now. It could be a hard game but we are prepared. We know Dundee United are a very good team. We need to play very well if we want to stay in the cup.”
