HEAD coach David Kennedy says Ross Sutherland are looking to turn the Naval Grounds into a fortress after another massive victory in Caledonia League One.

The Stags saw off North Police Scotland 53-36 in an 89-point thriller in Invergordon last weekend to make it two wins from two.

In their other league match this season, Ross Sutherland also ran riot with a 57-19 win over Ellon to earn them maximum points in the conference.

Tomorrow they have another home match as they prepare to host Caithness who have had mixed results this season.

Kennedy says results in Invergordon suggest Ross Sutherland are proving to be a formidable outfit at home.

He said: “It was a great result for us against North Police and to pick up two bonus point wins from our first two games is great.

“We are looking to rise to the challenge this season and the players have done that in the first two games.

“But we are well aware there are more games to come and perhaps none more so than when we face Caithness this weekend.

“We have gone on an unbeaten run at home which stretches back to the start of last season when we didn’t lose a game in Invergordon.

“We know our home form is good and to get 53 points against North Police was great as they stuck in really well against a difficult team.

“We are looking to make our home a fortress. If we are strong at home, it can stand us in good stead in this league and we can be thereabouts at the top.

“We haven’t been great travelling in the past, but we are also looking to get a few good results on the road that will help us be at the right end of the table.

“But we know that our home form has to be right this season.”

Caithness have won both their home matches this season, with a 45-41 win over Mackie and a 29-10 win over Highland 2nd XV in Thurso last weekend.

However, they did suffer an 88-0 hammering on the road against Aberdeenshire earlier this month.

Kennedy says that result may have been due to a lack of Caithness players being prepared to travel a significant distance to Aberdeenshire.

He thinks the shorter trip down the A9 will lead to Caithness being a tougher prospect.

He said: “I don’t think that we will face the same Caithness team that Aberdeenshire beat.

“I am sure Caithness look at us as a derby and their closest away game, and we will face a different team.

“We are expecting a tough and competitive game and looking forward to it.

“This is the challenge we are looking for with promotion facing teams like Caithness and Highland 2nd XV.”
