The Premiership season was brought to an early conclusion this month which saw the Staggies finish in 10th place.

They were two points ahead of Hamilton Academical in 11th and six points ahead of Hearts at the bottom of the table with eight games to play.

Before the league split, Ross County’s final three games were against Hamilton, Hearts and St Mirren who were all in the bottom four of the table. Kettlewell says he would have been confident they could have survived the drop if the season ran its course.

"Our record against the bottom six was the best on paper," he said.

“Do we know that would have been the case in the last eight games, no.

"But we would have backed ourselves.”
