ROSS County manager John Hughes says he is determined to help Jordan White continue to prove he is a Premiership striker after a good start to life at the Staggies.
White arrived in Dingwall at the end of the transfer window from Motherwell where he failed to score a goal for the Steelmen when he joined from Caley Thistle in the summer.
But since arriving in Ross-shire, White has scored twice in his first three games in wins against Hamilton Academical and Celtic last weekend.
Hughes says White was the type of striker Ross County required to bring in.
He says he will look to continue giving White opportunities to show what he can do in front of goal for the Staggies.
“When you bring in a player who didn’t play at his previous club like he did at Motherwell, you usually have to get him up to speed and get the volume in his legs,” he said.
“But he came in fit and in good shape. “That is why he has hit the ground running for us.
“Mentally if he has a point to prove, I will keep pressing his buttons and keep at it until the end of the season.”
Hughes says White is a player he has admired from the striker’s time at Caley Thistle, where he was the club’s top scorer two seasons running.
“We knew what we were getting,” he said.
“He will never run away from you, but he’s exactly what we needed in terms of a focal point.
“He’ll win us headers, he’ll bring in other players with his hold up play and if you’re getting crosses in and putting them into the box, every chance Jordan will get a head on it and make it difficult for defenders.
“A big part of bringing Jordan in was Billy McKay and Oli Shaw warranted it.
“Oli was in there doing Jordan’s role, but its not his game.
“He’s not a big physical striker, he belongs around the face or the shoulder, so it was important that we have a player like Jordan.”
