The 26-year-old, who has over 250 career appearances behind him, joins up with the group in Italy for pre-season training, after signing a two-year deal at the Global Energy Stadium.

Coming through the youth ranks of Plymouth Argyle, he graduated to the first team in 2013, making 64 senior appearances.

He moved to Championship side Rotherham United in January 2017.

He then went on to join Charlton Athletic in January 2019, initially on loan for the second half of the 2018/19 campaign. During the second half of that season he would play a key part in The Addicks gaining promotion from League One to the Championship through the play-offs- scoring in the final at Wembley against Sunderland.

In summer he made his move to The Valley permanent and would go on to play over 115 times for Charlton during his three-year stay.

Mackay said: “We are delighted to bring somebody of Ben’s experience to Ross County. At 26 he is in the prime of his career and has a great track record of games and success behind him.

"We tracked Ben and identified that he was a player of real quality that can add to our group and be one of the more experienced leaders in the dressing room.”

“Ben has proven himself at various levels of the game and those experiences will be important to us in what is going to be an extremely competitive Scottish Premiership next season.”
