Ross County looking for more consistency after victory against Dunfermline Athletic as they prepare to face Arbroath
Tony Docherty says he is looking for Ross County to maintain some consistency after victory last weekend as they head to Arbroath on Saturday.
The Staggies picked up only their second league win of the campaign after a 3-2 victory over Dunfermline Athletic at the Global Energy Stadium last weekend.
It moved Ross County up to seventh place in the Championship and seven points off the promotion play-off with Arbroath currently in fourth place.
Docherty says consistency will give them the opportunity to move up the table and will be looking for victory at Gayfield on Saturday.
He said: "The most important message to the players from us is to maintain these levels of performance and get a consistency of performance like we showed against Dunfermline.
"That will give us real opportunities to pick up the points we need to further build momentum.”
Arbroath were promoted from League One last season and are more than holding their own in the Championship as they find themselves in fourth place.
They also defeated Ross County the last time the two teams met in Dingwall with a 2-1 victory thanks to a late penalty from Aaron Muirhead.
Docherty says he is full of admiration for what the Red Lichties have done this season. Despite being one of the windiest grounds in Scottish football, he is determined the Staggies aren’t blown away on Saturday.
"I don't live too far away from Gayfield, so I know what to expect.
"I don't know whether the wind machine will be on this weekend.
"I have been there loads of times and I know what it can be like.
"I really need to praise David Gold and Colin Hamilton for the jobs they are doing at Arbroath. It's a difficult venue to go to.
"Goldie and Hammy have done a brilliant job.
"It reminds me of my time with Derek McInnes at Kilmarnock when that Arbroath team really challenged up in winning the Championship title.
"I see real similarities to the brilliant work Dick and Ian Campbell did.
"This will be a difficult game. The game here, where we lost 2-1, there were circumstances why we never won that one. We put in a performance that merited something.
"Since then, they have also improved. We have worked hard this week on identifying Arbroath's strengths and weaknesses.
"It was a difficult game against a really good side. They are very well coached and all credit to them, but I am fully focused on what we can do.
"We go there on the back of a really strong home performance and result. We're in confident mood.
"We will need to ensure we're at our best and we will need to do a lot of things out of possession and in possession correctly to give us the best chance to win
