Ross County take point against Championship league leaders St Johnstone in Perth
ROSS County remain unbeaten away from home in the league this season as they held Championship leaders St Johnstone to a 0-0 draw in Perth.
Despite their terrible start to the campaign, having only won one of their first 10 matches this season, the Staggies have yet to be beaten, or win, away from home this season, having drawn against Airdrieonians, Dunfermline Athletic, Ayr United, Greenock Morton and now at McDiarmid Park.
The draw means Ross County have moved up to eighth place in the Championship and above Queen’s Park following their 4-1 defeat at Arbroath.
Docherty praised his team’s defensive performance against St Johnstone, saying keeping a clean sheet in matches is something to build on.
He said on Ross County social media, he said: “I want to grind out results, get the clean sheets and not conceding.
“The longer it goes on, keep it at nothing and we score one and that is three points.
“Trevor Carson has come in and he has made us more solid that we do look like keeping clean sheets.
With our penalty box defending, special mention goes to Declan Gallagher, Alex Iacovitti and Akil Wright.
“We need to make sure that gives us a platform to convert one point into three.”
Speaking about the result against St Johnstone, Docherty said to hold the league leaders to a draw is a good result.
He said: “Any point away from home, particularly against the league leaders is a good point, and it could prove pivotal come the end of the season.
“I am really pleased, I thought we didn’t look like conceding today and that is the second clean sheet in a row.
“We moved up a place in the league and that is important going forward. We need to keep that resolute defending and have that mentality and strength.
“A special shout to the defensive side who did a really good job. In terms of going forward, we need to be better in position and in the final third.”
