Ross County Athletics Club athletes are selected to represent Scotland at Leeds Cross Country International





TWO Ross County athletes have been called up to the Scotland squad for the Leeds Cross Country International next month.

Andrew Baird and Billy Sutherland have both been selected for the race which will take place on Saturday, February 8.

Easter Kinkell athlete Baird, a pupil at Fortrose Academy will be competing in the under-20’s race.

Sutherland, from Latheronwheel in Caithness and a pupil at Wick High School has been selected for the under-17 squad.

Both athletes achieved major success at the Scottish Inter-District Championship and British Cross Challenge in Glasgow earlier this month.

Baird claimed victory in the under-17 race in 18:04 as he was crowned British Cross Challenge and Scottish Inter-district champion.

Sutherland won the under-15 race when he finished in a time of 12 minutes and 30 seconds.

Both athletes have claimed major race victories during their young careers.

Baird achieved success at Scottish and international level including becoming Scottish Short Course Country champion in November.

Sutherland claimed victory at the River Ness 5k in October and also won in the North Cross Country League race at Nairn last weekend.
