Alex Iacovitti is out to repeat Ross County’s clean sheet against Dundee United to build the foundation to beat Hamilton next Wednesday.

The 2-0 triumph at Tannadice last time out was just the third time the Staggies have shut out their opposition since John Hughes took over at the end of December.

That has been a regular source of disappointment in Dingwall, with County on course to finish the campaign with the league’s worst defence for the second season in a row.

Next on their calendar is a crucial match against fellow relegation candidates Hamilton, who have conceded the next most goals in the top flight in the 2020/21 season.

So Iacovitti knows that if County can repeat their solid defensive showing, they have a good chance of victory.

“It is massive for the confidence, getting the win and for the back four getting the clean sheet,” he said.

“If we can keep another clean sheet against Hamilton it will give us a great foundation to build from.

“We know what Hamilton are all about. It is going to be a fight, but we have to stay humble and keep working hard to get a result.

“We have to focus on ourselves and play our game before we worry about Hamilton. We have to put in a similar shift as we did at Dundee United, with everybody backing each other up.”

On top of claiming three points last time out, the Staggies may be able to take some confidence from coming out victorious last time they played the Accies.

Then, late goals from substitutes Jordan White and Billy Mckay saw County come from behind to win, but Iacovitti for one will not be reading much into that match ahead of the return clash.

“That was last time and this will be a different game,” he insisted.

“It is going to be a fight and it will be tough, but we will be ready.”
