Ross County Athletics Club duo Billy Sutherland and Lachlan Thomas help Scotland match best ever men’s finish at hill running International Youth Cup in Slovakia
Two young Ross County Athletics Club runners have helped match Scotland’s best ever performance at the hill running International Youth Cup.
Taking place in Slovakia this year, Lachlan Thomas and Billy Sutherland were part of a Scottish quartet competing on a course that spanned 5.3km, including 600m of climb, 17 other nations and temperatures in the low 20s over an uphill only course at Donovaly.
Held under the auspices of the World Mountain Running Association, the Scottish team finished sixth overall - matching the nation’s previous best set in 2009 - and only six points off a podium place.
Joel Gillan led the team home in 12th, Sutherland one place and just seven seconds back.
Thomas was the next Scot to cross the line in 19th, recording a time of 31:12 with Ben Hodson finishing in 32nd.
