Inverness City Boxing Club professional Adian Williamson returns to winning ways in Aberdeen – and targets finally bringing a title back to Alness
Adian Williamson returned to winning ways in the boxing ring – and now he has his eyes set on getting back into title contention.
The 21-year-old scored a unanimous decision over Donnie MacInnes in Aberdeen last Saturday to bring his overall record to 10 wins and one loss.
That defeat came in a championship bout against Josh Sandford in October, with both men vying for the Scottish Super Lightweight title.
However, having stepped back into the ring less than two months after that setback and having his hand raised, Inverness City Boxing Club’s Williamson is looking to set up a rematch with Sandford to redeem himself.
“I just wanted to get back in the ring as quickly as possible,” the Alness native explained.
“I love going into the boxing ring, so it was just a case of jumping straight back in and doing it again.
“I wouldn’t say it was tough to deal with the loss. I feel like I won that fight, and plenty of other people thought I won it, so I was just on the wrong end of the decision.
“That’s boxing at the end of the day, you can’t really do much about it.
“Now that I’ve got a win again, hopefully I can get a rematch with Josh Sandford. I’ve got a few other things lined up too, but I want to be winning titles.”
Williamson is targeting a February return to action, with the details currently being worked out.
After 11 professional bouts though, he has seen a clear difference stepping between the ropes compared to his amateur days, but he feels he is coping well.
“I just want to get as many fights and as much experience as I can possibly get,” Williamson said.
“I’m 10-1 now. I feel like my boxing IQ has definitely gone up.
“It’s obviously very different from the amateurs – it’s a slower pace, almost more like chess because you always have to be thinking about your next move.
“You have to be smarter about it rather than just throwing punches.
“The fight was really easy actually – a lot easier than I expected – so I’m looking for more challenges now.”
