Scottish discus champion Kirsty Law will make a record breaking 14th appearance in a Scottish vest at the Loughborough International which also has teams from England, Wales, Great Britain Juniors and students from Loughborough University and across the UK.

Law, who is from Munlochy in the Black Isle but lives in Loughborough, has already exceeded the Commonwealth Games qualifying standard by well over three metres with a throw of 60.13m.

Now she will bid for four wins in a row in this competition.

Her weekend gets under way tomorrow since she has also had an invitation to throw at the prestigious Diamond League in Birmingham.

“I first threw in the Loughborough international away back in 2005 when I was just 18 and it’s been right at the top of my favourite list ever since,” said the 35-year-old, who officially became a veteran last October.

“It’s not just because I live there, it’s a really excellent event.

“It always has a great atmosphere, and that’s why I’m always so keen to put on a Scotland vest for it.

“Of course, it’s also going to be a great experience to do the Diamond League and I’m used to throwing back-to-back on consecutive days.

“Obviously selection for this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham is my most immediate priority, but I have the qualification standard by a fair bit so I have to be hopeful that this will be OK.”

Law, a life member of the Inverness Harriers, will be joined by two other club representatives.

European Junior cross country champion Megan Keith and Stephen Mackay – who was delighted to receive a late call up this week – will both contest the 1500m.

Like Law, Keith and Mackay were also in Scotland’s Loughborough team last year, but both move down a distance to 1500m from the 3000m in 2021. The duo are also each in contention for Commonwealth Games spots themselves, but face stiff competition this weekend.
