Don Cowie confirms Connor Randall will be Ross County captain for 2024/25 season as Jordan White named deputy in Dingwall

Ross County manager Don Cowie has confirmed that Connor Randall will be the club’s new captain for the 2024/25 season.

The 28-year-old had taken the armband when starting matches across pre-season and the League Cup group stage, but Cowie had announced his final decision.

The Staggies manager finally revealed he had spoken to the squad at the start of this week, though, with his former Hearts teammate Randall taking on the leadership responsibility going forward.

Cowie said: “I have spoken to the group and Connor Randall will be the captain going into the season.

“He has been a great servant to this football club, and you know you are getting 100 per cent in training and when he crosses the line on a match day.

““That is all you can do as a player, so he is a real leader within the dressing room.

“He is not the most vocal but he goes about his business in a professional mannered he is somebody the rest of the group look up to. He is the ideal candidate for me, because he has the respect of everybody at the club.

“This is the most settled he has ever been and I think he would echo that in terms of the football club. He has really embraced being a Ross Couty player.

“This is his fifth season here, that doesn’t happen too often and it shows how dedicated he is to this football club. He has really grown and matured and this is the natural step for him now.”

Cowie also confirmed that Jordan White would be Randall’s deputy, adding: “Connor is captain and Jordan is the vice captain. Behind that, we have Ross Laidlow, Ricki Lamie and Will Nightingale as three senior players who will compliment them really well.

“With Connor and Jordan it is a reflection of the way they conduct themselves at this football club. For me, they were the natural pick.

“They have a massive role to play. It doesn’t mean they are going to play every week but they have to realise what they bring to the club everyday – they set the standards every single day and they make sure everyone else is in line.”

Don Cowie already has Will Nightingale back in training ahead of the Premiership’s opening-day trip to Motherwell this Saturday, while Ricki Lamie is improving after being forced off against Stirling Albion last weekend with an Achilles issue – with further assessments still needed to determine whether he will be able to return to his former stomping grounds of Fir Park.
