Connor Randall is excited for the future at Ross County under permanent boss Don Cowie – saying the manager’s job was ‘made for him’

Connor Randall believes the Ross County manager’s job was made for Don Cowie.

It was confirmed after the Staggies secured Premiership football for another season that Cowie would become the club’s permanent manager, having taken the reigns on an interim basis since February.

Club chairman Roy MacGregor revealed after their 6-1 aggregate victory over Raith Rovers last weekend that it was always the direction County would go in, but he did not want it to distract from their push for survival.

However, he confirmed that Cowie would become manager permanently just minutes after the final whistle, and the news has been received very well by players like Randall.

"Don just had to get the manager's job,” he reasoned.

"He has come in and done everything and more. The job is made for Don.

"He has kept us in the league with some really good performances, and we have got some good wins against some good sides.

"I am delighted for him. He knows the lads and has worked with a lot of us.

"He is easy to work with and he understands the boys. He's decisive and means what he wants to say.

“He's very well respected by all the lads, so next season could be an exciting season.”

The first target for the 2024/25 campaign will be to avoid falling into a relegation battle for a third season in-a-row, with the Staggies having to rely on a play-off to stay in the top flight in each of the last two years.

There will always be a sense of realism that County are doing well by extending their stay in the top flight, but Randall insists that there is more to come from the current set of players than survival.

"We want to do as well as we can next season,” the Liverpool academy graduate stressed.

"We're not the biggest club in the league but we are a fantastically-run club.

"We do want to achieve big things but staying in the Premiership is an achievement and we can celebrate that.

"As happens every year, players will be leaving and players will come in. There will be change but in pre-season we will work hard again and try to have the best season we can possibly have.

"Within ourselves and the squad we've got, we have shown in many games this season that we can compete with anyone, so we want to progress next season. We want to do better.
