Manager Don Cowie confirms discussions are ongoing between Ross County and Josh Sims as former Southampton man weighs up his future

Don Cowie says discussions are still ongoing between Ross County and Josh Sims over the winger’s future.

The 27-year-old is the only player whose contract was due to expire this summer whose status has not been confirmed.

George Harmon and Michee Efete have both signed extended deals, while Yan Dhanda, Ross Callachan, Matthew Wright, Adam Mackinnon and Jordan Tillson have all left the club.

Sims, though, is yet to decide on his future, with Cowie understanding of the dilemma the former Southampton man is facing.

“That’s one that is still ongoing, we’re in discussions,” Cowie explained.

“Josh has a decision to make. He has a really young family, two young boys under the age of three, and he’s at a stage where he has to think about whether he moves closer to home or stays.

“We would like him to stay, but I understand the situation he’s got and he’s got to make the right decision for him and his family.

“I’m sure we’ll know over the next few days how that’s going to play out.”

What is more certain, however, is that Cowie’s backroom team is beginning to take shape.

He has confirmed that Carl Tremarco will remain his assistant, with another coach expected to join their team too in the future.

“Carlo will be my assistant, and then we’ll be looking to add another coach to the group as well,” Cowie reasoned.

“That takes time, just like signing players does, but in general we’re in a good place. Things are moving forward really well, and come next week we should be ready to go.

“It’s been really good working with Carl. We didn’t know each other four or five years go, but he came in at the end of his career and had a year playing at Ross County.

“What I saw was a really good professional who shared the same values as me in terms of being dedicated to football, and giving 100 per cent every single day.

“We struck up a good relationship, and then when Malky was manager and I was assistant Carlo was in the academy, but he came up and helped with the first team on an ad hoc basis.

“That allowed us to develop a stronger understanding with each other, so when I was given the opportunity to be interim manager I had no hesitation in suggesting to the chairman that Carlo should come up and help alongside me.

“We knew what we both expected of each other, and over the last three months that has got even stronger.

“Carl has adjusted really well to being in that first team environment full time, so he will be part of my staff going forward and it’s just about trying to build on that now.”
