But the Ross County midfielder will return to Premiership action against Livingston this weekend “still on cloud nine” after the arrival of baby son Nolan.

Partner Brogan Reid gave birth to the couple’s first child on the morning of County’s draw at Hearts.

Chalmers, already loving life in Dingwall, has been walking on air ever since.

Having dealt with nappies and sleepless nights with the same calm he exhibits in the heart of midfield, the 25-year-old was back in action against Partick Thistle in the League Cup.

But after defeat at Firhill, he is eager to help recapture the Staggies their early season form.
