Jamie Johnston has been appointed as the new captain at Ross Sutherland.

Johnston, who had served as vice-captain last season, topped the try scoring charts for the Stags and replaces outgoing skipper Ali Kennedy after a two-year spell.

It was an underwhelming year for Ross Sutherland, who finished seventh in the Caledonia North Two despite pre-season hopes of a promotion push.

They have had a high turnover in their squad over the last 12 months, and Johnston will lead the club into what promises to be a new era.

"I've only been here a few seasons and to be honest it wasn't really something that I had in my head to do," Johnston said.

"I'm really looking forward to being captain and I'll be doing everything I can to repay the faith the club have in me, and get us back challenging for honours again."
