Muir of Ord Golf Club hosts Scottish Open for People with Learning Difficulties

TOP golf players from across the UK and Europe competed at the Scottish Open for People with Learning Difficulties at Muir of Ord.
The event was held in the Highlands for the first time as 17 players competed at the Ross-shire venue on Tuesday.
As well as players from across Scotland, one of the biggest tournaments on the Scottish disabled golf calendar also attracted golfers from England and Germany as they played across three divisions.
In Division One, Orkney’s Lee Findlay was crowned champion with a score of 70 as he took the title by one shot from Andrew Stuart of Forth Valley with Duncan Newall from Somerset claiming third place.
Garry McLeod from Helmsdale was Division Two champion with David Mitchell from Inverness in second place and Alistair Hay from Elgin third.
In Division Three, Mark Britton from Glasgow was crowned champion with Gordon McNichol from Perth claiming second place and Alistair Robertson from Glasgow claiming third place.
Tournament organiser Ronnie Mitchell from Highland Disability Golf says it was a major event to be staged at Muir of Ord Golf Club.
“This was the first time the tournament had been staged in the north,” said Mitchell.
“Highland Disability Sport contacted me asking to organise a tournament and when I asked Muir of Ord Golf Club, of which I am a member, they were delighted to host it.
“The event was staged well and we attracted players from far afield including England and Germany.
“Mathius Lenziemiar came over from Germany with his father to play in the Division Three category and he did really well in the competition.
“It was fantastic to stage an event like this at Muir of Ord, as a result, we have built links with players and clubs in England, Germany and Orkney.
“The players who took part also enjoyed the chance to meet others who love playing golf.
“That is what its all about, its not all about winning, it is about having the chance to play golf and meeting new friends.
“It was an emotional moment at the presentation ceremony as these lads just love playing golf and it is amazing to see how good they are.”
