Heggie, along with Charlotte Burton, Megan Keith and Helen Leigh claimed victory at Cumbernauld by almost 30 seconds.

They claimed victory in 58 minutes and 13 seconds with Edinburgh University second in 58:42 and Aberdeen Amateur Athletics Club finishing in third in 59:08.

Keith, who ran in the 10,000 metres at the Olympic Games in Paris last year, produced an incredible anchor leg which took them from fifth to first place.

She also ran the fastest female leg of the day in 12 minutes and 45 seconds.

The quartet also featured Heggie, who won the River Ness 10k in October and Leigh who won the Scottish Masters Cross Championship in February.

Keith says she was delighted to help her hometown club claim victory and make history at the event.

Speaking on the Scottish Athletics website, she said: “We won the National Road Relays at Livingston in March so this has been quite a 2025 for my home club,’

‘I wanted to help and it is really the first time in two years I have raced cross country.

“Obviously the World Champs were late and then I was ill for a couple of weeks so I am just coming back.

‘But there is a plan from some cross country this winter and I will race again in Cardiff and see how I fare over a longer distance.”

The young men team of Riley Davidson, Archie Grant and Charlie Davies came home in 35th place with great individual runs by Iyla Souter and Joshua Fitter.
