TEMPORARY Caley Thistle manager Neil McCann says he is only keeping the seat warm for John Robertson until he feels ready to come back to the club.

McCann has been appointed interim manager of Caley Thistle as Robertson goes on indefinite compassionate leave due to a family bereavement.

With assistant manager Scott Kellacher also unavailable due to illness, the former Dundee manager will take the reins at the Caledonian Stadium until further notice.

McCann is a former teammate of Robertson at Hearts where the pair won the Scottish Cup with the Jam Tarts in 1998.

He spoke to Robertson before taking the job and until he is ready to return, McCann says he will do all he can to have a positive impact on the team.

"There were certain commitments I had, so it wasn’t an easy decision and I needed time to think about it," he said.

“One of the considerations was to speak to John.

“I was delighted I was able to do that as he is a close friend of mine.

"I got an idea on the side and the set up here and I know there is good people at this club and he encouraged me in coming to help.

"I’m excited, but I am just keeping John’s seat warm and hope to make an impact to the team.

“There are some good players in it and the one thing that stood out for me is they are a right hard working group.

“Hopefully I am looking not to change things radically as John and the coaching staff are doing some good work here.

“It is important I put a bit of myself in the team, I will have my own demands on the team and what I expect and hopefully start off well.”
