The defending champions created the better chances early on before Thomas Logie stooped to head home from close range in the 22nd minute following a dangerous Callum Johnston free kick into the box.

Culbokie came out at the start of the second half with all guns blazing but the ‘Burgh defence held firm.

But in a breakaway move just before the hour mark the visitors almost doubled their lead.

Dow looked sure to score but he was denied by a desperate goal-line clearance from Sam MacKenzie.

Logie then rattled one off the crossbar as ‘Burgh looked to finish the game.

But the visitors had to wait until the third minute of stoppage time for Iain Hughes to make sure of victory when he scored after good work from Dow.

Maryburgh manager James Logie said: “It was a hard fought game.

“Culbokie are a really good team with a lot of experienced players.

“So to come here and win makes it a massive three points. Thankfully we kept a clean sheet and ground out the win.”

Culbokie manager, Michael Kerr said: “It was frustrating.

“We didn’t take our chances, but they won the battle at the end of the day.”
