MARYBURGH retained the Inverness and District Amateur Premier League
title in style with 4-0 home victory against Bellmac to finish a point
ahead of Avoch and Loch Ness in one of the closest title races in years.
The home side got off to a flyer with a goal after just 20 seconds. A
mix up in the Bellmac defence allowed Shaun Grant to nip in and score
the opener.
It was mostly one-way traffic and 'Burgh's Russell MacIntyre doubled the
lead in the 15th minute after Callum Johnston slipped him in.
Maryburgh were well on their way to victory five minutes later when
Blair Morrison towered above the Bellmac defence to head home a Johnston
corner.
The nearest Bellmac came to getting a goal back came in the 73rd minute
when Charlie Macdonald headed against the upright.
But 'Burgh wrapped things up in the 89th minute when substitute Marc
MacLachlan picked his spot from just inside the 18-yard box.
Delighted Maryburgh manager James Logie said: “It was important to get
the first goal tonight to settle any nerves. We kept it up but fair play
to Bellmac they made us work for the win - the fourth goal was the icing
on the cake.”
He reserved praise for his side's title rivals, he added: “Credit to
Avoch and Loch Ness they pushed us all the way. They are two good teams.
But at the end of the day we just managed to pip them at the post.”
Neil MacDonald scored five times as Avoch had to settle for the
runners-up spot after 13-1 victory against Ardersier at Cromal Park.
Goals from Ian Penwright, Jack MacKay, Jordan Knight, Craig Morrison,
Kyle MacLean, Kevin MacAllister and two own-goals accounted for the
rest.
Ryan MacPherson scored Ardersier's consolation.
A late winner from Ryan Ingram, his second of the night, earned Loch
Ness a hard fought 4-3 win at Culbokie.
Mark Kennedy and Johnny Hewitt netted Loch Ness' other goals, while
Darran Goller (2) and Chris Kelly scored for Culbokie.
NMM Sam's came from 1-0 down at half time to beat Police 3-1 thanks to a
Mark MacKenzie double and a Charlie Fonweban goal.
