Strong defensive showing for Stags despite defeat

Ross Sutherland player-coach John Mann drew huge positives from a backs-to-the-wall battle with hosts Garioch in Inverurie last weekend.

While the Stags ran out 19-0 losers in the Caledonia North Two clash, long spells of defensive defiance in mud and snow meant it was far from a wasted afternoon.

With no game on Saturday, the Invergordon outfit has some respite before completing three final league matches with one eye already on hopes for next season.

“Despite conceding three tries, it was probably one of the strongest defensive efforts this season,” Mann insisted.

“With around 70 per cent possession, their tries came from sitting on our try line for five or 10 minutes solid.

“One came after our player was sent to the sin bin. Defensively, we contained them pretty well."
