Belmaduthy skip Peter Macintyre claimed his second Dr John Anderson Trophy at the Ross-shire Province Bonspiel.

Macintyre, who last won in 2016 alongside Scott Fraser, was this time joined by Willie Main and Peter Fraser for the competition at Inverness Ice Centre.

They overcame the seven other rinks to enter, including defending champion Heather Gill with her trio of Ross Ladies Club curlers Sheena Lawson, Aline Drummond and Edith Blake.

Each club rink played three five-end games where points were earned for a win (12), peel (six), ends (four per end) and shots (one per shot).

At the end of play, Macintyre’s Belmaduthy rink topped the table with 113 points, having earned game wins over Caberfeidh’s Hugh MacKay 9-1, Belmaduthy’s Iain Fraser 8-3 and Dornoch’s John McHarg by a whopping 16-1.

McHarg had stepped in after regular Dornoch skips, Iain Mackay and Stuart Gardiner, were both absent.

Fraser, the defending Ross-shire League champion and league leader in the current campaign, had Jamie Fraser, Lynne Fraser and Mike Paul in his line-up, and eventually finished in second place.

They had won 81 points, with wins against Killearnan’s Duncan Clark 13-1 and Locheye’s Richard MacKenzie 5-3.

There was some consolation for Clark’s rink of Neil Gillies, Alan MacDonald and Duncan Mowat when they won their final game 10-0 over the Ross Ladies – with the 42 points in total they earned from that tie lifting them into third place with 69 overall.

Killearnan’s reward was a new trophy introduced into the bonspiel to give first-round losers something to play for.

Next Monday will see the last Province B League matches of 2019. Then on Wednesday, Belmaduthy and Locheye will meet in the final of the Allangrange Trophy.
