Inverness Ice Centre welcomed 80 curlers from all over Scotland to celebrate Fochabers Curling Club’s 150th anniversary.

Receiving invitations to join in the celebrations were several individual curlers and club rinks from the North Area 13 provinces.

One of the most decorated curlers to play was Inverness’s multiple World and European champion, Ewan MacDonald.

Macdonald faced Neil Durno in the main final of the competition for the Christie Cup.

Durno, with club mate John Wilson and Elgin’s Barbara Grant and Ross-shire’s Iain Fraser in his rink, had the favourites on toast through the early part of the final.

But the loss of four shots in the seventh meant MacDonald’s rink powered on to win 10–6 as they claimed the coveted trophy.

In final number two, Alan Durno (Fochabers) beat Stuart Stark (Forfar) 5–2 to lift the Duncan Trophy. Locheye’s Richard MacKenzie’s rink lost the Durno Stone Trophy in the last end of the third final.

Fochabers George Christie’s rink nudged up a final stone into shot place to win 5-4. The final four for the Paul Quaich featured Belmaduthy’s Peter Fraser.

His rink beat Forres’s Abby Duncan in their final 8-6.

While in the fifth and last final for the Langs Trophy, Caberfeidh’s Bill Shirran rink went down 10-6 to the Wilson Burnet rink.

As part of the club’s 150th anniversary, Fochabers Curling Club marked the occasion with a celebration at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness by inviting guests who took part.

Meanwhile, in the sixth round of the Inverness Super League, Iain Fraser’s rink moved into second place as he leapfrogged Neil Galacher with a comfortable 6-1 victory.

Fraser’s rink will look for other rinks to take points from league leader Rhuaridh Greenwood who leads by two.

The last time the top two played Greenwood beat Fraser 6-4.
