INVERGORDON manager Gary Campbell is concerned with how his team are conceding goals after taking commanding leads, despite being top of North Caledonian League Division One.

Invergordon were left hanging on to defeat Halkirk United 3–2 last week after being 3–0 up at half time.

It was a similar story on the opening day of the season when after going 3–0 up at half time against St Duthus, were again hanging on for a 3–2 win.

However, going into Saturday’s home game against Orkney, Invergordon are three points clear with a 100 per cent record.

But Campbell says they can’t afford to keep allowing teams the chance to get back into matches.

He fears if it keeps happening it will eventually result in dropping points and allowing their rivals to close the gap in the race for the Division One title.

“We didn’t play as well as we liked against Halkirk,” he said.

“We lost two goals, one of which was in injury time, but I don’t accept us losing goals.

“Although we were 3–0 up, we didn’t play as well as we could, but on the plus side we still won.”

Campbell did say stormy weather which hit the Highlands on Saturday afternoon did play a part in how the game developed and conditions deteriorated as the match went on.

He is hoping for better weather when his team welcome Orkney to Recreation Park tomorrow.

Orkney’s match against Thurso last weekend was postponed after the Caithness club were unable to raise a team to play across the Pentland Firth.

Their only league match was a 5–5 draw against St Duthus in Tain two weeks ago.

Despite not having much game time this season, Campbell still expects a tough encounter from the islanders as they look to make it four wins out of four.

He said: “Orkney are a good side, although they have only had one game it will remain a tough challenge.”

Daniel Christie, Darran Goller and Ian Ross remain unavailable for Invergordon due to injury but Campbell should have everyone else available for the game which kicks off at 12.30pm.
