The North Caledonian League outfit have confirmed it has secured a deal to play at Pavilion Park at Muir of Ord.

It will mark a return to the ground where Athletic previously played in the league after being established in 2016.

The club had been playing its home matches at the Inverness Royal Academy 3G surface in recent years.

Club chairman Sandy Stephen said one of the main reasons in moving back to Muir of Ord was to play on a grass surface again.

“Football should be played on grass and that is what we want to get back to,” he said.

“It is a fantastic facility at Muir of Ord.”

Inverness Athletic will keep its name despite moving location, but Stephen says the long term goal is to eventually move back to the city.

“Our long term goal is to play in Inverness but there is no point trying to force that and there is a fantastic facility just 10 minutes outside of the city.”

“As a club, if we want to find a ground somewhere in Inverness, we have to put in the work to try and make that happen.

“We’re an Inverness club and should we be in a position to move back, that is where we want to play.”

No date has yet been confirmed for when the North Caledonian League 2020/21 campaign will begin.

Next season will see the league being split into two divisions for one season only.

Inverness Athletic, who finished last season in seventh place when the league was declared null and void, will play in Division Two.

They will join league newcomers Alness United, Loch Ness, Nairn County under-20s and Scourie along with Bunillidh Thistle and Bonar Bridge who finished in the bottom two last season.
