Invergordon teenager Mischa Allan posts qualifying standard for British Championships at Northern District Weightlifting Championships
Invergordon teenager Mischa Allan stole the show at the Northern District Weightlifting Championships last weekend by posting a qualifying total for the British age group championships in September.
The Highland Weightlifting Club athlete was competing at the championships at Inverness Leisure Centre on Saturday, which saw a record number of competitors – with three times as many women as men.
It was the third time the competition had been held at the leisure centre, hosted by Allan’s club in association with Weightlifting Scotland.
There were a record number of entrants, with the overall competitors’ list having doubled in size from the first competition in 2021 – and three times the number of female entrants compared to male entrants.
Local talent from across the age categories entered, with 14-year-old Allan starring with an impressive effort.
Highland Weightlifting Club Chair Steve Walsh said: “A big thanks to our colleagues from Weightlifting Scotland for travelling north to support an event in the Highlands and also to Inverness Leisure staff for the huge amount of work in preparing the venue and providing the equipment.
“A big thanks to all of the officials, loaders, competitors and spectators for really making the event work so brilliantly on the day, having recently lifted at British, European and World championships, this event is right up there with all of them in terms of atmosphere.”
