INVERGORDON manager Gary Campbell is refusing to get carried away with their 100 per cent start to the season despite approaching the half way point of the campaign.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Orkney saw Invergordon move six points clear in North Caledonian League Division One thanks to Thurso recording a shock 3-1 victory over second place Golspie Sutherland.

But Campbell is determined his team stay grounded and not get carried away with any thoughts of winning the league as they head to Halkirk United tomorrow.

“Being ahead by six points at this stage means nothing,” he said.

“We have been ahead at the top before and have been clawed back.

“We need to keep our feet on the ground, however it has been a good start for us. But we are not halfway through the season yet.

“All the teams still have to play one another yet, so things could change.

“It has been a good start, but that is all we have at the moment.”

Last weekend’s 2–0 victory over Orkney was pleasing for Campbell in the fact they kept a clean sheet after previously saying they have been guilty of conceding late goals which almost cost them points.

“We played a lot better than we did the week before.

“Orkney was a hard fought victory and we were pleased to get the win.”

Invergordon head up to Morrison Park to face Halkirk on Saturday with the two teams having met only two weeks ago when the league leaders won 3-2.

Invergordon raced into a 3-0 lead at half time, but Halkirk stormed back in the second half and almost claimed a point.

Campbell is aware of the quality the Anglers have in their squad and says they can’t afford to be as slack in defence as they were at Recreation Park a fortnight ago.

“Halkirk pushed us all the way in Invergordon and by all accounts played well against St Duthus last week even though they lost,” he said.

“We need to play well to be able to beat them up there.

“Morrison Park is an excellent pitch to play on as long as its not too windy up there.

“It will be a tough match but we are confident of getting a result.”

Darran Goller remains Invergordon’s only absentee as he continues to recover from injury.
