Invergordon American football team start season with win at Dumfries

HIGHLAND Stags got their British American Football Association NFC 2 North campaign off to a winning start as they won 33–12 at Dumfries Hunters on Sunday.

James Hudson, Mark Betts, Stephen McMeechan and Kyle Cocker all starred for the Invergordon outfit in an impressive start to the season to move them to the top of the conference.

They are one of five teams playing in NFC 2 North along with Aberdeen Roughnecks, Dunfermline Kings and Clyde Valley Blackhawks as well as the Dumfries Hunters.

In the other conference match at the weekend, Aberdeen Roughnecks defeated Clyde Valley Blackhawks 13–6 in Wishaw.

Highland Stags now have a week off before their second match when they will face Dunfermline Kings at the Naval Grounds in Invergordon on Sunday, November 24.

Dunfermline Kings start their season this Sunday when they take on the Clyde Valley Blackhawks in Fife.

The club also hold training sesssions at the Merkinch Nature Reserve in Inverness. Highland Stags were crowned champions of the Saltire Division in 2021 and are competing in NFC 2 North for the first time.
