Invergordon stormed nine points clear at the top of the North Caledonian League table after a clinical 6–1 victory against Inverness Athletic.

Shaun Kerr scored the opening goal for Invergordon against Inverness Athletic last week from the penalty spot.

The league leaders were gifted a penalty in the opening minute before going on to dominate the match.

“The penalty in the first minute settled us,” said Invergordon manager Gary Campbell.

“We could have scored a few more as well, we had lots of chances, but overall I’m pretty happy. We are on a good run at the moment, long may it last.”

The Invergordon boss is not getting too carried away with his side’s lofty position.

He said: “We are in a good place at the moment, but there are a lot of hard games coming up.”

Invergordon have four league matches left against Golspie Sutherland, Thurso, Orkney and Bunillidh Thistle, but before that they face Halkirk United in the quarter finals of the North Caledonian Cup.

“We haven’t won anything yet this season,” said Campbell.

“We want to win the cup, so we need to keep this run going.”

Invergordon got off to the perfect start when Shaun Kerr scored from the spot. Darran Goller doubled the lead in the 17th minute with a low drive which flew into the far corner of the net.

Set-piece specialist Arron Christie scored a curling free kick in the 25th minute.

Andrew Miller pulled one back a couple of minutes later with an audacious attempt from inside the centre circle, but normal service was resumed when Penwright tucked away a Goller assist.

Penwright was on target again with a tap-in in the 55th minute and substitute Russell MacIntyre completed the scoring 16 minutes from time.

Invergordon Social Club staged a late, late show to reach the Community Cup final with a 3–2 victory against North Kessock.

The Social Club were 2–1 down in the dying minutes when they struck twice to book their place in Saturday’s final against NMM Sam’s.

“We left it late,” admitted Social Club manager Robert Mitchell.

“We kept going until the end and to get the winner right at the death was very pleasing.

“Sam’s are a very strong side, but we go into the final with a lot of confidence.”
