Malky Mackay has returned to a former club to add another player to his Ross County revamp as he has signed Joseph Hungbo on a season long loan from Watford.

The 21-year-old left-footed winger started his career at Crystal Palace, where he won the club's under-16s player of the year award, before making the move across London to Vicarage Road two years ago where he has since made seven appearances – including a run out at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

This is not his first loan spell since joining Watford, having also spent two months at Aldershot in the National League in the first half of last season.

Hungbo impressed Hornets' head coach Xisco enough to earn a new contract until 2024 before making the temporary move to Dingwall, which includes a recall clause for the English top flight outfit in January.

Now, he will be hoping to make a similar impression on new boss Mackay and Scottish football with the Staggies.

“Joseph is an exciting prospect who has played in the Championship, learned his trade at two Premier League Clubs and, at 21, he has already shown a terrific appetite to play at the top level of the game," Mackay said.

"We feel this can be a really good move for him to challenge and prove himself in the SPFL.

“I would like to thank Watford for the way in which they conducted the loan deal and our continued relationship.”
