Ross County Women learn path that could take them into Scottish Women’s Football’s national leagues next season
Ross County now have a better idea of the path that could take them into Scottish Women’s Football’s national leagues next season.
A complicated system will see League One expand for the 2025/26 campaign, with teams from all five of the regional leagues having a chance to earn promotion.
Whoever finishes bottom of League One will be automatically relegated, and placed into the relevant regional division out of North, Central, East, West and South.
However, the winners of each of those five regional leagues will go into a play-off system alongside the team that finishes second-bottom of League One.
The play-offs will consists of a single match at a neutral venue, with all three winners earning a spot in League One next season.
A draw took place earlier today to determine how the play-offs would look, and it was determined that the winners of the SWFL North would face the winners of the SWFL Central league.
County currently sit at the top of the SWFL North at the midway point of their season, three points clear of nearest challengers Elgin City, who do have two games in hand.
It is the Highlanders’ first season in the SWF pyramid, and they have fared well so far to compete at the top of the table.
They will need to hold on to top spot by the end of the season to give themselves a chance in the play-offs.
As things stand, it would appear that would then set up a tie against Dunfermline, who are six points clear at the top of the SWFL Central.
