Ross County could face the prospect of a Highland derby in the third round of the Scottish Cup, as they have been drawn against the winners of the second-round match between Buckie Thistle and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Highland League outfit were due to host ICT in the second round yesterday, but that match was postponed due to a frozen pitch and has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening.

Two seasons ago County were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by their Highland rivals, twice drawing 2–2 before ICT triumphed 5–4 in a penalty shoot-out.

Should Inverness beat Buckie, it will be a particularly tasty encounter for new County manager John Hughes, who lifted the trophy with the Caley Jags in 2015.

The Staggies will be looking to go at least one step further than last season, when they were knocked out in their first match in the tournament by Ayr United, losing 1–0 at Somerset Park.

Third round matches are scheduled to take place on the weekend of Saturday, January 30.
