Gardyne excited by County trophy challenge

Michael Gardyne says that it is an exciting time to be involved at Ross County with the club still challenging on three fronts.

The Staggies are still in the Scottish Cup and reached the semi finals of the Irn-Bru Cup, but crucially for them they are three points clear at the top of the Scottish Championship.

Gardyne says that has made for a great atmosphere at the club, and says the players are out to make up for last season's relegation.

"It's great, it's exciting," he said.

"This is where you want to be at this stage of the season.

"Obviously this is the business end, and it's looking like we're in a good position in the league, and we've got the cups as well that we're doing well in.

"It is an exciting time, it's a good place to be. It has been all season to be fair, the way the managers and the players have went about everything, it's just a good place to be again.

"You kind of want to right those wrongs from the past. Getting relegated, it's the worst feeling in football.

"At the back end of last season it wasn't nice for anybody, and obviously for myself being here for a number of years, it was hard.

"To get back and be in the position that we're in and have the chance to take Ross County back up would be great for myself and for everyone involved at the club."

County received a boost on Tuesday night when local rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeated title rivals Ayr United.

That preserved the Dingwall side's gap at the top, but Gardyne does not think the Staggies can afford to rest easy now.

"It's three points, I don't think it's breathing space," Gardyne insisted.

"It was a good result for Caley, and it was a good result for us, but Caley are only nine points off.

"There are four or five teams that think they could possibly win the league. It makes it interesting and exciting for everyone.

"It's going to need to make us be on our guard even more and make sure we're at our best every single game.

"There's 13 or 14 games left to go, not a lot, the season is dwindling away. We need to make sure that we're winning games.

"It's that old cliché, one game at a time, but it really is one game at a time because we can't look any further than Dunfermline."
