Fortrose teenager takes on top athletes from across Europe in Northern Ireland

LUCAS Cairns finished within the top 20 at the Armagh International Road Race in Northern Ireland tonight.

The 15-year-old Fortrose athlete finished in 18th place in eight minutes and 55 seconds in the 3k race.

The race was won by Matthew Neill in 8:37 with Danny Mooney and Eskander Turki joint second in 8:41.

In the women's race, 17-year-old Inverness athlete Megan Keith came ninth in nine minutes and 24 seconds.

The race was won by Anna Emilie Moller from Denmark in 8:58. England's Alexandra Bell was second in 9:06 with fellow English athlete Amy Griffiths third in 9:09.

Inverness Harrier athlete Jenny Bannerman finished 20th in 9:34.
