Fortrose teenager becomes Scottish cross country champion

LUCAS Cairns stormed to victory to become under-17 Scottish Cross Country champion at Falkirk.

The Fortrose Academy pupil took the title by 17 seconds at Callendar Park.

Cairns won the race in 21 minutes and 15 seconds with Cameron Fordyce second in 21:32 and Jack Patton third in 21:41.

His sister Anna claimed bronze in the under-15 race.

Strathpeffer athlete Hamish Hickey claimed silver in the under-20 race crossing the line in 23:45, three seconds behind race winner Freddie Carcas from Edinburgh.
