Fortrose and Rosemarkie golfer lifts Sinclair Cup

Fortrose and Rosemarkie’s James Fraser claimed victory at Golspie Golf Club’s August tournament.

The 28-year-old lifted the Sinclair Cup with a sub par card of 67.

He was three shots ahead of second place James MacBeath of Brora Golf Club

A total of 70 players took part in the tournament which changed to 18-holes from 36-holes last season.

Gary Ross of Eriskay Whisky Galore claiming third place with 71.

Other scores included David Sanderson of Nairn with (72) Ross Powell (Deeside) 73 and Ross Muir (Golspie) with 74.

Golspie golfers were few and far between in the handicap order for the Argo Cup with the scratch winner’s club mate Alex Campbell leading the way with nett 66, off 19.

Falling in behind him were Chris Miller (East Sussex National) (16) 67, Dougie Alcock (Inverness) (6) 68 before William Melville snatched fourth place on a count back from Ross Powell (Deeside) (4), both with nett 69.

Inverness based Kieran Mackay defending the McVitie and Price Cup in this week’s Tain Golf Week events began his qualifying rounds with a 70 on Monday.

He was joined at the top of the leader board by his club mate Ian Cowper.

The top six scores was completed on day one by Brian Campbell 71, Glen McAlpine 72, John Fraser 74 and former winner Jimmy Russell 75.

The 16 scratch match play qualifiers played their first round and quarter final matches on Wednesday.

The semi-finals and final are scheduled to be played today.
