Gregor MacDonald says Brora Rangers have to be considered favourites to win the Highland League this season and push on for a place in League Two.

The 19-year-old centre midfielder from Avoch joined the Cattachs after being released from Ross County this summer and has already made appearances in the Betfred Cup and Highland League Cup.

MacDonald, who was on loan at Keith last season, predicts the quality in the squad will help Brora continue their winning momentum in the 2020/21 campaign due to start on November 28.

“I think after last season’s performance, you can’t say we’re not favourites for this year,” he said.

“It was part of the reason I wanted to sign for a club who showed that ambition to push on.

“I don’t think you will find that anywhere else in the Highland League.

“The standard of players is better than anywhere you’ll find.”

MacDonald spent 11 years in the youth system at Ross County and after being released attracted interest from League One Peterhead before signing for Brora Rangers.

He said spending last season playing in the Highland League while on loan at Keith has helped his development as a footballer.

But he wants to play at a higher level and believes he can do that by achieving promotion with Brora Rangers.

“Going on loan to Keith last season was the best thing I could have done as a player to push myself on,” he said.

“But what you want as a player is to push on through the leagues and test yourself against better opponents.

“Getting into League Two next season would be the perfect stage for us to move on.”
MacDonald says he is keen to repay manager Steven Mackay’s faith in signing him up to the squad.

He has been impressed with the communication he has received from the boss since signing on at the Highland League champions.

“The management has been class and they have been speaking regularly to me since I joined.

“ I just need to perform to the levels they want in time for the start of the season.”
