New goalkeeper is looking forward to the challenge of helping Inverness Caledonian Thistle win promotion back to the Championship
ROSS Munro says coming home to sign for Inverness Caledonian Thistle was a no-brainer as he looks to help them win promotion back to the Championship this season.
The 25-year-old signed for Inverness this season and is set to become the club’s number one goalkeeper ahead of the new League One campaign.
Munro, who comes from Nairn, came through the Ross County youth set up before going on to play for Dundalk in the Republic of Ireland and was part of the Falkirk Championship winning squad last season before being released.
Now he has come in as a replacement for Musa Dibaga, who has moved to Crusaders in Northern Ireland and is one of two new goalkeepers at the club along with Logan Ross.
Caley Thistle have effectively come out of administration following a company voluntary arrangement being agreed and Munro says it is an exciting prospect leading Inverness to better days after a tumultuous period for the club.
He said: “I was buzzing when they came in for me.
“It was something that was I looking at and when I saw that they were in for me it was a no-brainer. I have been away for a couple of years but there is no place like home.
“I just have to go for it, they have obviously put a lot of faith in me and I know the goalkeeper Logan Ross, so we will bounce off each other throughout the season. We will take each game as it comes and we will see where we are at the end of the season.”
Munro spent seven years within the senior team at Ross County, spending time on loan at Brora Rangers, Raith Rovers, Cowdenbeath and Annan Athletic.
He spent one season with Dundalk in 2024 where he played 20 matches before then joining Falkirk last December on a short term deal.
He said his time with Dundalk and Falkirk especially has helped improve him as a player and hopes it will benefit Inverness.
“I benefitted from the moves, going to Ireland and playing in a different country. I learned a lot from there such as different styles of play. It has added another bit of experience to my arsenal.
“After everything Caley Thistle have been through, you could tell there is a real buzz about the place.
“After the situation the club was in, everyone is really ambitious, now everyone is looking forward to get going.”
Despite going into the new season with a five point deduction due to being in administration last season, Inverness are still be labelled as one of the favourties to win League One and gain promotion back to the Championship.
Munro says nobody is getting carried away, but says he has been impressed with the quality in the squad and is hopeful they can be a success this season.
Speaking about having the potential title favourites tag, he said: “It is not really for us to say, it us up to everyone else to put that on us.
“We are looking to take each game as it comes. We put any pressure on us, we will just take each game as it comes.
“We have a diverse group, there are a lot of young boys who have that experience, that is what you want in any team, they will help the young ones and older ones.”
