Former Ross County and Inverness Caledonian Thistle player Michael Gardyne has announced his retirement from senior football.

The 39-year-old has called time on his career after playing 650 matches which included 11 years at Dingwall with Ross County.

Gardyne originally signed for Ross County in 2008 when he played 141 time in his first stint in Dingwall and scored 26 goals.

He left in 2012 to sign for Dundee United, but arrived back on loan at Ross County in September 2014 before signing permanently in 2015. During his second period at Dingwall, he played 171 times and scored 14 goals.

Gardyne also scored in Ross County’s Scottish League Cup final winning team which beat Hibernian 2-1 in 2016.

During his time at Ross County he also won the Scottish Challenge Cup and the Scottish Championship in 2019.

He was released by Ross County in 2021 and went across the bridge to sign for Inverness Caledonian Thistle. He played 11 games and scored five goals before having his contract terminated by the club in January 2022.

He signed for Montrose where he spent the last three years of his career as he made 125 appearances for the Gable Endies and scored 9 goals.

Gardyne played his final game for Montrose in a 2-0 defeat against Inverness Caledonian Thistle last week.
