Nairn hosts over 200 runners in the fourth round of the North Cross Country League race - Inverness Harriers and Ross County athletes claim victories
NAIRN played host to the fourth round of the North Cross Country League on Saturday where over 200 runners took part in the latest fixture.
In the senior men’s race, East Sutherland Athletics Club athlete Ross Gollan continued his impressive season when he claimed victory in a time of 26 minutes and 38 seconds.
The Edderton athlete was 12 seconds ahead of his younger brother Ruaridh Gollan, also of ESAC, who finished in 26.50. James Wilson of Moray Road Runners finished in third place in 27.19 The Edderton brothers have dominated the season winning all the senior men’s races between them this season.
In the women’s race, Helen Leigh of Inverness Harriers claimed victory when she crossed the line in a time of 31 minutes and five seconds. Kate Mactear of Inverness Harriers was in second place in 32.24 with Kirstie Rogan of Highland Hill Runners in third place in a time of 32.52.
Ross County Athletics Club dominated the under-17 boys’ race as they took all three places on the podium. Scottish international runner Lachlan Thomas took victory in 22.27 with Kaeden Thomas in second place in 22.39 and Jamie MacGruer third in 26.33.
In the under-17 women’s race, Iona Scott of the Inverness Harriers won 20.38 with Lucy Fraser of Inverness Harriers second in 21.14 and Louisa Pendergrast of Gordonstoun third in 21.37.
Ross County Athletics Club Billy Sutherland, who won the River Ness 10k in September, and won at the Scottish Inter-District Championships in Glasgow, won the under-15 boys’ race in 17.09 with Ewan Thompson of Inverness Harriers second in 18.36 and Darren Green of Moray Road Runners third in 19.03.
Anna Meek of Inverness Harriers, who was runner-up at the River Ness 5k in September, won the under-15 girls race in 18.58 with Rhona Mclaren of Nairn Area Amateur Athletic Club second 21.02 and Lucy Beastall of Inverness Harriers third in 21.10.
Reuben Urquhart of Ross County won the under-13 boys race in 12.16 and Niamh Doorley of Inverness Harriers won the under-13 girls’ race in 13.07.
Riley Davidson of Inverness Harriers won the under-11 boys race in 5.52 with Kyla Grant of Inverness Harriers winning the under-11 girls’ race in 6.05.
