Ross County remain in the relegation zone of the Scottish Premiership after they failed to cause an upset at Ibrox against Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

The Staggies were three goals behind at half time as Ianis Hagi scored twice with John Souttar getting the third to all but kill the game off as a contest before the break.

James Tavernier made it 4-0 from the penalty spot with 12 minutes remaining.

Ross County dropped into the relegation play-off spot in 11th place yesterday after Kilmarnock moved above them and Dundee into ninth place after their 1-0 win over Dundee United at Rugby Park.

Currently on 26 points, County are five points ahead of St Johnstone who are at the bottom of the table on 21. But they are one point behind Dundee in 10th and two points behind Kilmarnock in ninth.

The opening goal came after 15 minutes when Vaclav Cerny’s shot was well saved by Ross County goalkeeper Jordan Amissah. But he could only parry the ball to Hagi who was on hand to slot in the rebound and score his second goal of the season.

Hagi doubled Ross County’s advantage in the 32nd minute when his shot took a deflection off the head of Jonathan Tomkinson to wrong foot goalkeeper Amissah, who can only watch as the ball goes into the right corner.

Five minutes later, Souttar made it 3-0 for Rangers when he scored his first goal of the season.

He latched on to Nico Raskin's header following Hagi's corner and applied a confident finish.

In a dull second half with Ross County offering little up front, Rangers were then awarded a penalty with 10 minutes remaining when Cyriel Dessers was judged to be fouled in the box. Tavernier then shuffled up to the spot before firing past Amissah to make it 4-0.

The Scottish Transfer Window shuts tomorrow at 11pm with manager Don Cowie saying previously he does not feel under pressure to bring in new personnel to his squad.

Ross County are not back in action until Saturday, February 15 when they travel to face Motherwell who are looking for a new manager following former Ross County boss Stuart Kettlewell standing down at Fir Park.
