Derby day delight as Staggies fans trump Highland rivals (again)
A DERBY day with a difference saw Ross County fans do their favourites proud while bagging a welcome boost for charity.
The Ross County v Inverness Caledonian Thistle tussle at Jubilee Park last weekend saw the hosts record a convincing 3-1 victory as both sets of fans united behind to boost the coffers of the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association in memory of the late Moraig MacAngus, who suffered from the condition.
Moraig was the wife of Bill MacAngus who turned out for Ross County between 1947-50. Their grandson, Roddy Gray, was instrumental in setting up the fans' derby, which was this year attracted around 100 spectators and raised £510 for the charity.
Roddy, who helped set up a Central Belt Ross County supporters group, declared himself delighted with the "convincing" victory and the boost for the charity.
He said former County star Graham Girvan's 25-yard "cracker" for the fans' first goal beautifully set the scene for a great day.
Steve Masson and David Murray, who plays for Alness Athletic, were also on target for the Staggies.
Said Roddy: "It was fantastic, I think we got the tactics spot on. We wanted to get an early goal and then it was about making the easy pass and the early ball."
The self-employed music teacher now hopes to bang the drum to make it an annual affair. He said he would love to see the match alternate between Dingwall and Inverness, ideally making use of the SPL rivals' stadiums.
