Ross County players are the most frustrated they have been all season following defeat to Hearts in Dingwall, admits defender Akil Wright

Ross County defender Akil Wright admits that recent weeks have been the most frustrating spell of the season.

The Staggies have lost six matches in-a-row, most recently going down to Hearts in Dingwall.

That run of form has seen County slip from top six hopefuls down to the relegation play-off zone, where they are two points behind Dundee.

With bottom of the table St Johnstone and a trip to Dens Park coming up in their next two fixtures, it is set to be a crunch spell for County to say the least, so Wright is demanding improved standards on the pitch to finish off the 2024/25 campaign.

“It’s 100 per cent the most frustrated we’ve been in the dressing room,” he admitted.

“The last time we played Hearts, we were talking about the top six, and now we’re in the play-off spot at the bottom of the league.

“It’s frustrating. Everyone does care, and we’re trying to work hard in training, but all that matters is that on the pitch, on a Saturday, we show that.

“I don’t even know what to say – it’s just not going our way at the minute. We don’t look creative at all, and even at 1-0 on Saturday I think we rode our luck a bit, and we got punished for it.

“I obviously made a mistake at the end and slipped, and that kills the game at that point.

“We need more about us. It’s a fight at the end of the day, and we all need to be honest and admit it’s not been good enough. We’ve got three games now to put things right and make sure this club is still in this league next season.”

Club captain Connor Randall had said ahead of last weekend’s game against Hearts that some serious conversations had taken place in the Staggies dressing room.

Wright echoed that, but acknowledged that the time for talking is over with just three games left for County to avoid a third consecutive relegation play-off.

“We can do all the talking we want, it’s about what we do on the pitch on a Saturday, and it’s been nowhere good enough,” Wright added.

“It’s probably just about belief. I feel like we haven’t changed much on the pitch, but we just haven’t been good enough.

“We’ve been lucky with other results going our way, but we shouldn’t be where we are. We are here for a reason at the end of the day, and it’s because we haven’t been good enough. It’s as simple as that.

“We have to roll our sleeves up, and it’s three massive games now to make sure we stay in the Premiership.

“We can’t keep hoping for luck with other results. We have to focus on ours first, so if we win games we can worry about the rest after that.”
