Ross County defender Ryan Leak looking for improved performance to go with three points in final League Cup group game against Stirling Albion in Dingwall

Ryan Leak will be looking for an improved Ross County performance to round off their League Cup group stage and go into the Premiership campaign on the highest possible note.

The Staggies have so far won three games out of three, but manager Don Cowie has repeatedly called for better all-round displays despite their success in terms of results.

County still have every chance of being a seed for the second round, with them needing to win by at least one more goal than Livingston does to guarantee as much.

While that will be partially out of their control though, the Dingwall outfit will be focusing on earning maximum points against League Two outfit Stirling Albion at home this weekend.

“It’s still early days, so we need to improve,” defender Leak explained.

“Looking at the overall performance against Hamilton, boys weren’t happy, but at the end of the day we went to an artificial pitch that we aren’t used to and got three points.

“There’s definitely stability there now with the gaffer from the back end of last season, and he is constantly feeding his ideas into us.

“We’re an honest group, and we’ve got honest staff as well who will tell us the right things. We have to look at ourselves and work together on and off the pitch to improve.

“We weren’t good enough against Hamilton, we know that, but it’s always good to know that we can play badly in a way and still get three points.

“We always want to improve performances gamy by game, but football is about winning games at the end of the day. It doesn’t matter how you do it.”

One extremely encouraging factor despite performances leaving something to be desired is that Ross County have not had a problem scoring goals so far.

The exit of last season’s top scorer Simon Murray could have left supporters concerned, but across friendlies and group matches all four of Jordan White, Eamonn Brophy, Alex Samuel and summer signing Ronan Hale have found the net.

“They have proven there are goals in the team in the cup so far, and hopefully they can take that on into the season,” Leak added.

“There is great competition up there, and it was Ronan’s first game on Tuesday, so they’re all fighting for a place.”
