Stuart Kettlewell believes the Betfred Cup group stage will set the tone for Ross County’s season.

The Staggies get their competitive campaign under way tomorrow with a home tie against Montrose, who reached the League One play-offs last season.

County progressed from the same stage last season, topping their group before being knocked out in the following round having run Hibernian close.

They would then go on to have a successful season, lifting both the Irn-Bru Cup and the Scottish Championship trophies to win promotion.

Kettlewell is looking for a similar springboard this time around, but knows his side will be in for a tough task starting tomorrow.

“We’ve got a tough group, but we feel like we came through a tough group last season as well,” Kettlewell recalled.

“We want to try and get out of the group again, we know it’s going to be a difficult task and we’ll have to perform to our best to do so.

“But there is a big emphasis on it from myself and Steven because we go back to the idea of it being the foundation of what will hopefully be another good season for us."
